Castleton

Castleton is one of the true icons among Darjeeling tea estates. Planted in 1885 by Dr. Charles Graham, this estate is home to mostly China bushes that grow at heights of up to 6,000 ft.

Originally named “Kumseri”, the estate was renamed Castleton after a building that resembled a castle in Kurseong that still stands intact today. This structure allegedly belonged to a money lender who gave it its grand look.

Tea sections in the estate are identified by various names, rather than numbers, a marked departure from the norm.

Suggested steeping

2.5 gms per 6 oz of filtered water, steep for 3 mins at 185 F/85 C.

Vary leaf quantity, brewing time, and temperature per individual preferences.

Appearance, aroma, and taste

Light golden liquor, flowery fragrance, and crisp taste with balancing astringency.
